Why not Shopify?

Shopify has some great features right out of the box, it's pretty straightforward to set up and get running and security updates are automatic. The issues we have with Shopify stem from it being a hosted solution as opposed to a self-hosted solution. First of all you're not in charge of your source code, this means any tweaks you may wish to make to your store - for example attempting to optimise aspects for SEO purposes, may either be difficult or impossible. Furthermore with Shopify you're 'locked in', if you decide you want to move to another platform at a later date then all the design, products, order history, user accounts etc are non-transferrable and end with your plan.

Why not WooCommerce?

Magento is a purpose built e-commerce solution, WooCommerce is a
plug-in for Wordpress. While Wordpress definitely has its place on the web (primarily as a blogging platform) in our eyes it simply doesn't make sense to make a blog work as a full CMS website, and it makes less sense still for that website to then try to run an e-commerce store.

From a security perspective, although WooCommerce is independently audited by Sucuri to certify the security of the plugin, it's only ever as secure as your Wordpress installation and your server. On the plus side it is self-hosted, so if you have a WooCommerce store and are thinking of migrating to something like Magento, at least some of the data you have will be transferrable.

Upgrade to Magento 2

Any new Magento store we build will be built on Magento 2. If you already have a Magento 1 store and you're looking for a trusted partner to help with the upgrade to Magento 2, we've got all that covered in our handy 'Should I upgrade?' guide.
